HireMaker Resume Service Job-getting tip number 85:
Context based "hint dropping". This
is a complicated description for a simple concept: Prove to the
interviewer beyond any doubt that you know a subject thoroughly and
completely. They'll be so impressed, they won't ask you any
other questions on that topic.
For example, if they say "Can you reboot a computer?"...
- If you just say "Yes", maybe they'll believe you,
maybe they won't.
- If you say "Yes, I've rebooted computers since 1997",
it's a bit more convincing, but still far from perfect.
- If you say, "Oh, of course, via the
'Control-Alt-Delete' keystroke sequence", then they're
getting pretty close to believing you. In fact, this is
quite a good answer, but there's still a bit more room to
totally blow away the interviewer.
- And finally, if you say, "Oh, definitely. In the old
days, it was done via the 'Control-Alt-Delete' keystroke sequence,
which would reboot your computer right away. Nowadays with
Windows computers, it'll first take you to the Windows Task Manager,
where you can stop various tasks if you want, but if you hit
'Control-Alt-Delete' a second time from there, then your computer
will reboot", you'll have totally impressed the interviewer, and
they will know you know what you're talking about, and might move on
from the computer questions onto their next topic.
