Nobody but recent college graduates sends thank you cards: You can do one of two things with that advice. You can say, "Whew! I'm off the hook, I don't need to send one!", or you can say "Wow, I'll REALLY be remembered if I send one!". And in either case, you're probably right.
Stay realistic, though: Remember that most recruiters don't really care. Sure, they appreciate it, but it's not as if they'll say "Hey, I wasn't going to hire this person, but now that I have this thank you card, I've reconsidered!".
Exception: If you work in an industry where thank-you notes are the norm (perhaps certain types of sales?), then maybe you should send one. This might be a case (it's different, read carefully) where the recruiter might say, "Well, let me see if they DO send a thank you card."
What you probably can and should do, though, is send an email thank you. It's fast, easy, and appropriate.
